King Edward’s School
We have been working closely with King Edward’s School, Bath, to develop their yearly, retrospective magazine ‘The Edwardian’. This is the first of an incremental redesign.
Due to the extensive range of subjects and varying content we felt it was important to introduce a familiar visual thread throughout the magazine. We achieved that by commissioning a photographer to capture the school in a slightly less formal manner and instead capture spaces around the school grounds that celebrated the calm atmosphere and impressive architecture. The new imagery also championed the school’s strong mix of heritage and contemporary.
Part of the brief was to install a stronger sense of student authorship. We decided that simply displaying the pupils name at the beginning of the articles they had written would immediately set the tone for the reader.
A bold use of colour, introducing contemporary typefaces and keeping the page compositions dynamic also helped install a subtle sense of youth.
